🌟 Why I Should Choose the General Academic Strand (GAS) in Senior High School 🌟

Introduction

Hi there future SHS students! 👋 I can imagine that you're excited yet confused about which track or strand to take. Don't worry this is very typical! Choosing a strand is certainly important because it eventually will lead to the college course you take and the career you will pursue.

If you are anywhere in the "undecided" phase of the decision-making process, or if you want to allow for flexibility in your post-secondary options, the General Academic Strand (GAS) may be the pathway for you.

What is GAS?

The General Academic Strand is designed for students who are:

Still considering what they want to take in college, OR

Want a wide variety of learning experiences that integrate humanities, social sciences, management and introductory STEM content.

Why I Chose GAS?

1. College Flexibility

GAS offers me experience in various college programs. Whether I choose education, business, social sciences, communication, or any STEM-related program in college, GAS gives me some experience and background to succeed at any rate.

2. A Well-rounded Education

GAS is not solely based on one specialization. GAS also allows me to develop knowledge across different areas, allowing a person to adapt in either a situation or real life.

3. Always Undecided

To be honest, I don't really know what my dream job is yet. GAS allows me to take off the pressure, as I understand that I will have the opportunity to explore my strengths and interests while gaining important experiences.

4. Life Skills

I can develop my critical-thinking, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills in GAS. These are all life skills that I can take with me from school, to work, and into life and my relationships.

My Personal Reflection ✨

For me, choosing GAS is like getting a second chance. I may not know what my career will be yet, but GAS is helping me become a flexible, well-rounded student, and prepare for my future. I believe GAS is the best opportunity for someone who still truly has not found what is right for them too.
